New Austin High

Under the expert supervision of Decatur Schools Project Manger Lee Edminson, Austin High School campus construction is still on schedule and within budget. July 14th, 2017 marked a major milestone when the final roofing beam was hoisted in place. The property is built for 1,400 students. Blueprints include on-campus softball and baseball stadiums, practice fields, and a 15,000-square-foot fieldhouse. The Austin campus will also feature a 5,030-seat stadium adjacent to the campus near Modaus Road and Shady Grove Lane in Southwest Decatur.

Slated to accommodate up to 1,100 students, the brand new Decatur High School will feature a fully-enclosed, heated and cooled skywalk over Somerville Road connecting the school to the gym. Both new high schools, which boast 2,000-seat, arena-style gymnasiums and 500-seat theater-style auditoriums, will be completed for the 2018-19 school year. Nola VanPeursem Architects has designed both schools to include storm shelters designed to withstand 250 mph winds and located within five minutes of any classroom.
