Pre-Kindergarten (Pre-K) Enrollment Information

Decatur City Schools offers three types of Pre-K programs and each type has different requirements for entrance and registration. The First Class Program (Title and Non-Title Schools) and Special Education Typical Peers Program each offer opportunities for students to engage in reading readiness skills, math readiness skills, fundamentals of technology and many more exciting learning activities delivered by highly-qualified teachers and paraprofessionals. 

First Class Title I Pre-K Program....This program is available for children who are 4-years-old on or before September 1, 2023, who live within the Title I school zones of Austinville, Banks-Caddell, Frances Nungester, Oak Park, West Decatur, and Woodmeade.  Students are selected for the program through a screening process. This program is tuition free.

First Class Non-Title Pre-K Program.... This program is available for children who are 4-years-old on or before September 1, 2023.  Classes available at Ben Davis, Chestnut Grove, Eastwood, and Julian Harris.  Students are selected by a random drawing.  First preference will be given to applicants residing in the attendance zone of the school, then those residing in district, and lastly those residing out of district.  Tuition is income based using a sliding scale. 

Special Education Pre-K Typical Peers Programs...This program is offered to two age groups -- for children three years old on or before September 1, 2024, for the 3-year-old program, or for children four years old on or before September 1, 2024, for the 4-year-old Pre-K program. These students are selected through a screening process.
