My name is Jessica Holmes. I am the English teacher for the DCS Virtual Academy. I am in my 20th year of teaching. I have been with Decatur City Schools since 2004. Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with students and families in many capacities. I have a background in teaching English to students in alternative education, honors/advanced courses, career-focused education, and most recently, for the past 5 years, as a virtual teacher.

I have a Bachelor’s in Education from Athens State University and a Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of West Alabama. I am married to Jeremy Holmes. We have 3 children, Tristan a freshman in college, Sammy, a high school sophomore, and Albany, a 5th-grade student. We have a golden doodle, Bella, a trained service dog for my daughter, Albany.

I enjoy “all things” surrounding my family life which I hold dearest to my heart.

I enjoy hobbies such as writing, reading, and photography. I am highly competitive! A fun activity I look forward to each year is planning out my bracket with the SEC basketball March Madness. I also enjoy watching the sandhill cranes each year when they migrate for the winter to the Wheeler Wildlife Refuge!
