Free/Reduced Information

Starting Tuesday, September 8th through December 31st, every student enrolled at Decatur City Schools will receive a breakfast and lunch at NO COST.

 

This has been made possible due to an extension of the USDA Seamless Summer waiver.

 

Parents/Guardians are still responsible for any outstanding balances accumulated prior to September 8th.

 

In addition, PLEASE keep filling out the free and reduced lunch forms located on our website or at our local schools. This information is very important to our system data.

 

 

The online application for Free and Reduced Price Schools Meals is available here https://onlinemealapp.dcs.edu/.  

 

To receive meal benefits YOU MUST submit a 2020-2021 free/reduced application unless you receive a letter stating you are direct cert.

 

Only complete one application (either on-line or paper) per household. 

 

Temporary Status: If your child was free or reduced in Decatur City Schools during the 2019-2020 school year, they will be the same eligibility until August 31, 2020. On that date unless a current school year application has been submitted, eligibilities will be changed to paying status. 

 

Best way is to complete an Online Free & Reduced Meal Applications

The process is quick, easy and FREE and can be done in a few short steps, just follow the prompts to complete one application for the entire household.  Since the information you are providing is electronic, a determination will be made faster than ever before and “lost” or “misplaced” applications will be a thing of the past.  Your information is protected using encryption technology so you can rest assured that your personal information is safe. 

The online application for Free and Reduced Price Schools Meals is available here https://onlinemealapp.dcs.edu/.   Select English or Spanish and follow the instructions on the screens.  When you have completed your application, you will be prompted to enter your electronic signature.  Click Submit and you are finished.  You will be notified of the determination in approximately 10 days.

If you do not have access to the internet, a computer is available for the online process at the Child Nutrition Office, 910 Wilson Street NE, Decatur, AL  35601.

Paper applications will be handed out on the first day of school at the non-CEP schools or can be obtained at school office or 910 Wilson Street NE, Decatur AL  35601.

Meal benefits are determined by Household income and household size.  Make sure to:

  • Include name of each child in the household, include students attending CEP schools & children not attending school.
  • Include name of each person in the household, even if they have no salary!
  • Do Not Put the same income on application twice. Only put money in child’s income field if the child has income. If child doesn’t have income, leave this blank and put income with adult household member

Income Application
An income application must have a signature and last four (4) digits of the social security number of the parent/guardian. We cannot process your application without this information.

Foster Children
A foster child living in your home qualifies for free meals regardless of your income. You may include all foster children on same application as the rest of your household.


Direct Certification

If you receive a letter stating that your child(ren) are free DCRT you are not required to fill out an application.  If there are other children in the household not listed on the letter, please notify the Child Nutrition District Office at 256-560-6801, or by email at Julia.Senn@dcs.edu

Confidentiality: All information is confidential. Student computer accounts look identical to
cash paying students, so no one can tell what the status is of any student. We respect your privacy.

Verification
Your eligibility may be checked at any time during the school year. You may be asked to provide documentation to verify your income.

Notification
Please allow 10 working days to process your application. You will receive a notification letter from the Central Office Child Nutrition Program office of your eligibility status.


New Students
New students will need to bring money for meals until their application is processed and approved.

Student Transfer
If a student transfers within Decatur City Schools their eligibility will also transfer. A new application is not necessary.
