E-Learning/Distance Learning Plan

E-Learning/Distance Learning Plan for Decatur City Schools

Maintaining a schedule of instruction is important for learning and growth. Various modes of instruction will be delivered to students in order to provide a continuous opportunity for learning. 

Grade Span/Program

Delivery of Instruction

Grades P-2

Students will receive a 15 day calendar that will include activities for early numeracy and early literacy. Students will also have access to Accelerated Reader and Epic as technology resources. 

Grades 3-8

District issued devices (Chromebooks) will be sent home with students which will allow access to 15 days of instruction for English Language Arts and Math in Google Classroom or Seesaw. Students will also have access to Accelerated Reader and Epic as technology resources. 

Grades 9-12

District issued devices (Chromebooks) will be sent home with students which will allow access to 15 days of instruction for English Language Arts and Math in Google Classroom or Canvas. Students will also have access to digital ACT preparation resources such as: John Baylor and ACT’s Problem of the Day.

Dual Enrollment

Students who are participating in virtual dual enrollment classes will continue the regular format which allows completion of assignments.


Students attending classes on the Calhoun Campus should follow the schedule or requirements for those classes. Instructors will provide access to digital content in a platform such as Google Classroom or Blackboard.


ORI 110 Instructors should continue the course with students as normal.

Career Academies of Decatur (CAD)

District issued devices (Chromebooks) will be sent home with students which will allow access to 15 days of instruction for specific CAD content.

Work-Based Learning (Co-op)

Students will contact their employer to ensure business is operating on a normal schedule. Students will work scheduled hours as required by employers. If you have concerns, contact Lott@dcs.edu.

EXCEL Center

District issued devices (Chromebooks) will be sent home with students which will allow access to 15 days of instruction. Excel Center students will be given on-line assignments in Google Classroom and Reading Horizons. 

Special Services Alternative Center (SSAC)

District issued devices (Chromebooks) will be sent home with students which will allow access to 15 days of instruction through Edmentum. Students will also have access to digital ACT preparation resources such as: John Baylor and  ACT’s Problem of the Day.

Center for  Alternative Programs

District issued devices(Chromebooks) will be sent home with students which will allow access to 15 days of  instruction through Edmentum. Students will also have access to digital ACT preparation resources such as John Baylor and ACT’s Problem of the Day.

Achieve- Inspire- Motivate Program (AIM)

Students will receive a 15 day calendar of activities through ClassDoJo and/or Google Classroom.  

Homebound Students

District issued devices (Chromebooks) will allow students access to 15 days of instruction for English Language Arts and Math in Google Classroom. Students will also have access to Accelerated Reader and Epic as technology resources. Other resources include: Edmentum Flex, John Baylor and  ACT’s Problem of the Day.
