Demond Garth Leads Cedar Ridge Black Bears!

Although he’s been around in Decatur City Schools for quite a while, Mr. Garth is our new Decatur City Schools Principal at Cedar Ridge Middle School. You may already know some impressive facts from his resume, but I bet you didn’t know that he loves books on leadership styles! I asked Mr. Garth some random questions just for fun, and the answers might just make you smile.

Resume highlights:

  • Interim Principal at West Decatur Elementary for the last year
  • Assistant Principal at Cedar Ridge Middle for 3 years
  • Head basketball coach at Austin High for 8 seasons

What is your favorite book of all time?

Most of the time I’m reading up on sports, but I also like books on leadership.

What is your most embarrassing memory?

During my senior year playing basketball against Hartselle, I tried to do a dunk. Instead, I missed, got hung up a little, and fell. That was super embarrassing.

Favorite M&M color:

I’d say orange is my favorite color, but also blue, because I love Auburn.

If you could be any animal in the world, what animal would you be?

Could we make a hybrid because I think I’m half monkey and half lion. I love being in charge, but I’m really silly doing it.

If you could relive one grade in school, which one would you choose?

My senior year in high school we made it to the final four, and if I could go back, I’d love to change that we made it even farther.

Personal message from Mr. Garth:

“I know how difficult middle school can be, but it’s my job to make the transition as smooth as possible.  We’re going to have a fun year, and we’re going to enjoy our time at Cedar Ridge!”
