Welcome to the Julian Harris

Music Department

Web Page.

The music department at Julian Harris is dedicated to teaching students grade level musical concepts using a fun, hands on approach, while following the guidelines of the Alabama Course of Study for Fine Arts.

Our Kindergarten students engage in a variety of singing, and movement activities stressing the performance of the beat and simple rhythms.

First graders are working on music to be presented for our March PTA meeting.

Second graders are learning to perform simple accompaniments on a variety of orff instruments simultaneously so that "we sound like a band" as they sing along.

Third, fourth, and fifth graders are playing recorders at their respective ability levels.

This week we are taking a break from our routines to explore the performance of "Lord of the Dance" as performed at the Von Braun Civic Center last week. Students are exploring the sounds and sights of Celtic music and dance.

It has been our great fortune to be the recipient of three of BP Fabric of America's $500.00 donations to local non-profit organizations. That makes a total of $1500 that we have been able to spend on additional musical instruments, equipment, and materials. Because of this generous donation, all students in the classroom have an instrument to play and do not have to sit and wait their turns.  Not only do they learn faster, but it cuts down on the possibility of discipline issues.

Thank you BP and employees for investing in our schools.
