2007 - 2008 "Never Settle For Less Than Your Best" I can sum up my philosophy of education in one sentence. It’s all about the kids. That’s it. It’s that simple. Everything I do should be for them. No exceptions! No excuses. My job is to teach my students, and do everything I can to help them achieve to their highest potential. I implement my philosophy of education in my classroom using three main ways. First, I must realize that every student in my classroom is unique. Each one brings a difficult set of skills, attitudes, experiences, and problems to school everyday. I cannot teach each one the same, treat each one the same, nor love each one the same. Some students need more love, instruction, patience, and understanding than others. I most know the ability, interest, motivation, and challenges of each of my students. Second, I most develop an educational environment in which each child can feel safe to take a chance and reach beyond their abilities. I must create an environment in which every child can achieve success. Of course, the levels of success will be different. I must get every student achieving at their highest potential. To do this, I must believe beyond a shadow of any doubt that each student is smart in his/her own way. Not only must I treat them that way, but I must make them believe it. It is imperative that I make each student realize their own potential and believe in their own ability. Third, and most importantly, I must teach to the whole child. Students cannot learn effectively until their physical and emotional needs are met. Students with emotional challenges need stability more than anything else. In everything I do, I most create a safe haven for them. If the students do not trust that you have their best interest at heart, they will not try, learn, or work effectively.
